Non-Medical Companion Care Across Long Island
Non-Medical In-Home Care: Frequently Asked Questions
Do you provide medical or nursing care?
No. Total Home Senior Care is a non-medical companion and homemaker agency. Our caregivers help with companionship, meals, light housekeeping, laundry, errands, medication reminders and escort to appointments. We don’t provide medical or nursing care, and our caregivers don’t provide hands-on personal care such as bathing, dressing, toileting or transferring. If your loved one needs that kind of care, a licensed home care agency can provide it, and many families use our companion care alongside it.
What is the rate?
One flat rate of $28.75 per hour for all of our services, with a minimum of 4 consecutive hours. We offer discounted flat rates for 12-hour sleepover stays and 24-hour care; call us for details.
Is your care covered by Medicare, Medicaid or insurance?
Our services are private pay. We don’t bill Medicare, Medicaid or health insurance. If you have long-term care insurance, check what your policy requires for home care; we can provide detailed invoices for you to submit.
Who do I pay, and what payment methods do you accept?
Payment is made to Total Home Senior Care. We can invoice you weekly, bi-weekly or monthly, by mail or email, whichever is most convenient. We accept credit cards, Zelle, Venmo, checks and cash.
What areas do you serve?
All of Long Island: every community in Nassau and Suffolk Counties, from Great Neck and Long Beach to the Hamptons, the North Fork and Montauk. Our office is in Dix Hills. See our Areas Served page for a list of communities, or call 631-495-0253.
Are your caregivers certified and background-checked?
Every caregiver is carefully screened before we hire them. Screening includes a written test, an in-depth interview, reference checks, criminal and DMV background checks, and I-9 employment verification. Our caregivers are employees of Total Home Senior Care and are bonded and insured, and the agency carries professional liability insurance that covers them. Our typical caregiver is a Certified Nurse Aide (C.N.A.) or Certified Home Health Aide (C.H.H.A.) with at least two years of experience.
Will the same caregiver come every day?
Total Home Senior Care goes to great lengths to make sure the caregiver assigned to your family is the right person to meet your loved one’s needs. Once a caregiver is in the home, we strive to keep that same person with your loved one, which brings stability and comfort.
What if the caregiver isn’t the right match for our family?
We stand behind every match with our Caregiver Match Guarantee. If a caregiver doesn’t meet your expectations, we’ll gladly replace them with someone who’s right for you.
What happens if our caregiver can’t make a shift?
If your caregiver can’t work a shift because of an emergency or illness, we’ll send a temporary caregiver who can meet your loved one’s needs.
How do I get started?
